Cubmaster

Beth Boudreau

Thank you for taking a few minutes to get to know me…

I truly love being involved with scouts!  I feel as though I’ve come full circle – from being the little “Brownie” in my youth, to watching my own boys grow and learn through their scouting experiences.  I consider it an honor to be the Cubmaster of Pack 316 and strive to provide a quality program for the youth of Douglas.  “Everything that a Cubmaster does is aimed at helping the individual boy.”

I grew-up in Webster, MA but have resided in Douglas since 1992.  I have a BS in Industrial Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and worked in manufacturing for many years.  When my oldest son was born, my husband and I decided that I would stay home to raise our family.  We are the proud parents of four wonderful children:  Noah, Seth, Dale, and Leah.  I’ve also been fortunate to have the opportunity to home school my children.  For several years, our dining room table was our school room.  And, if we weren’t home “doing school” we were studying science at the Audubon, having gym class at Central Rock Gym, or off learning about theatre and art.   One of the most exciting moments of our home schooling experience was when our LEGO Robotics team was awarded First Place in the Regional First Lego League (FLL) Competition and went on to compete in the MA State Tournament.

In November of 2013, my husband and I made the decision to enroll our children at Saint Joseph School (SJS) in Webster.  I’m currently working at SJS as a teaching assistant while I pursue a career in Education.  I’m also the president of the Home School Association, as well as a member of the Saint Joseph Polish Women’s Club.

Not including my time as a “Scout Mom,” I’ve been directly involved with Douglas Cub Scouts for five years.  My first experience came in 2010 when I signed-on to be the den leader for Seth and his friends. A few years later, I became Cubmaster of that pack.  During that time, the pack repeatedly achieved Gold Level Status in the BSA’s Journey to Excellence Program.

In 2014, I was awarded the Hassanamisco District H. Irving Dalton Award.  “H. Irving Dalton (Dolly) was the District Chairman for several years. He had firm convictions about the ideals of Scouting and about how, as adults, we all should strive to teach by example. The H. Irving Dalton award is presented annually to a Scouter who best exemplifies the positive spirit of a dedicated leader and one who exhibits the high ideals that Scouting seeks to instill in its youth members through the Scout Oath and Law.  I am very proud to be a recipient of this award and do my best each day to live up to the high standards of the award’s namesake.

I recently completed the BSA’s Woodbadge Training.  Woodbadge is advanced leadership training for adult leaders.  It teaches skills that are useful in Scouting, work, family, and other community service activities. The focus is on leadership and team-building.

In addition to my position as Pack 316 Cubmaster and den leader for my son Dale, my involvement in scouting extends to our new district, Mill Town, as well as Mohegan Council.  I serve on the Mohegan Council Popcorn Committee, where I act as a District Popcorn “Kernel” and assist units with their fundraising goals.  In addition, I am the Program Director for Mohegan Council’s Webelos Residence Camp (WRC).

I’m very proud of my scouting accomplishments and endeavor to continually improve myself and my unit.  I am especially proud of the opportunity to be a founding member of St. Denis Cub Scout Pack 316 and feel blessed to be surrounded by such a dynamic and dedicated group of leaders, parents, and scouts.

All young boys deserve the opportunity to be involved in Cub Scouting.  But even more so, they deserve a program that focuses on the 10 purposes of Cub Scouting:  character development, spiritual growth, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fitness, family understanding, respectful relationships, personal achievement, friendly service, fun and adventure, and preparation for Boy Scouts.

The Boudreau family is truly a “Scouting Family.”   My husband, Joey, is an Assistant Scoutmaster for St. Denis Boy Scout Troop 316, while my oldest son, Noah, is the Senior Patrol Leader.  Noah loves the independence and leadership skills he’s developed through scouting and has a goal of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.  Seth just earned his Arrow of Light, the highest award a Cub Scout can earn, and has crossed-over to Boy Scouts.

I look forward to working with you and your future scout.  I hope that I can be a guide and resource to you as you embark on your scouting journey.  It’s a wonderful adventure!  I know that you will be as proud of your boy’s scouting achievements, as we are of ours.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding the Cub Scout experience or the new Cub Scout standards that will be implemented in May 2015.

Yours in Scouting,
Beth Boudreau
